Custom wood furniture is a great way to upgrade the look of your home and make it feel more like yours. There are several ways to order custom furniture these days. Some companies even have the option to create a custom piece online, and you’ll never talk to your woodworker at all.

at Brooklyn Buffalo Woodworks we prefer a more personal approach. We want to consult and advise you every step of the way, so we can make sure you’re happy with our progress and you’ll be delighted when we deliver. So we’ll walk you through our process to getting your handmade, solid-wood furniture.

Whether it’s at your home or we meet at a location of your choice, communicating your needs in person and building a relationship with you helps make the process go more smoothly. Once you agree on a design, we will get back to you in a few days with a quote. Generally, we will include a price for a couple different species of wood if you are unsure what type of wood you like.

Up next we’ll your wood and getting it ready…

Once the quote is approved, I will send an invoice for half the amount to cover materials, design and any potential shipping costs involved. You don’t pay for my work until your furniture has been finished and we know you’re another satisfied customer.

Then I’ll head down to one of a few local lumber yards I like to use, and begin selecting each piece of wood I’ll use for your custom furniture. I do this to ensure you are getting the best quality lumber available. After I select the wood I bring it back to the Brooklyn Buffalo wood shop and stage it. We do this to ensure the quality of the wood. You see the wood needs to get acclimated to the environment of my shop before any initial milling is done, this helps to prevent warping and usually takes about a week.

Now that we have the wood, approved by you, and it’s had a chance to adjust to the environment, we’ll start creating your handcrafted wood furniture.

Now for the fun! We’ve finished milling the wood (milling wood is the process of making a piece of lumber flat and square so it can then be made into furniture) and now it’s time to start creating your beautiful hand-built furniture. 

As I’m building your furniture I will send pictures showing you how it’s going throughout the process. I think this has a couple benefits. It allows you the chance to see it happening and if you have any questions or think possible adjustments might be needed, we can discuss it. More importantly though I think it adds to the uniqueness of your one-of-a-kind wood furniture, and gives it a story and a background all it’s own. 

Once we’re done I’ll send you a final picture to make sure you’re happy with it and there are no detail changes you might want. Once you approve I’ll begin the final glue up (which will lock everything into place).

Congrats! You’re furniture is finished and now we just need to get it to your home…

The lumber was handpicked, prepped by hand, and handcrafted. You have a story to tell with this new piece of furniture. It has your character because you designed it. Everything about this furniture is all yours, except it’s still in our shop…

Until now! It’s time to bring it into your home so you can start making memories with it! We offer free delivery to most of Southwest Florida (or you can come pick it up from us if you’d prefer).

We’ll schedule a good delivery time with you, load your furniture with care and set off for your home. Once there, we will unload and carefully bring it into your home, making sure not to damage anything. Placed where your want it’s finally yours! And you can start making memories with it.
